QQ - Reactions of a victim of abuse - Priya

Priya - a victim of physical / sexual abuse

Reactions for Aditya's advances -

First - Stiff resistance coupled with accusations of not understanding her situation aka her inhibitions to the extent that Aditya feels she is terming it as lust

Fair enough understood

During the kiss - Very quickly gives in without too much resistance and is also shown to start deriving pleasure (Please note the Aditya forcibly held her and kissed her to prove his love is love not lust - some sort of love proving session it was Dead)

Now - Shown wanting to assure Aditya that she does think he loves and not lusts for her and she indeed also accepts her love for him Apparently to dance on Zara Zara Kiss Me

QQ for the points highlighted in bold

How natural / realistic is this reaction of a physical / sexual abuse victim ???

It would be great to know your thoughts

I wonder why ???

In all serials there is a protagonist and an antagonist, however, whenever the lead protagonist is a woman, she is constantly oppressed or suppressed by either circumstances or men.

Like in case of other serials, the woman is constantly having economical problems coupled with family and health.

Or it is the men who are bad

When I say this what I mean to say is that all the men in the protagonists life either -
1. Oppress /suppress the woman
2. Do not care for the feelings at all
3. Are having affairs outside / or there is a second woman definitely involved
4. And above all the men are completely negative
Like in case of Maryada, the women are pretty decently placed economically except I guess Uttara but in her case it's shown because he is good for nothing.

Hence, to portray the trials and tribulations of a woman the men in that woman life or connected are negative.

E.g. SSP - womaniser, rapist, bad cop (not sure of that completely as at least the character portray he is a nice cop as of now. But don't know the truth)

Uttara's husband - Good for nothing, ready to make his wife sleep with someone else for money, etc.

As of now they have shown Gaurav decent but is having an affair.

Aditya is the hero so is all nice having background score of Ishq hai Ishq hai

I wonder why to bring out the woman's strength of character, persona, existence they have to show men negative and not with just grey shades.

Just a thought ................ would like to know everyone's views on this

Unintentional Teaser

Today’s episode – December 17th, 2010

Scene – A man upset with his girlfriend start dragging his girlfriend out of the restaurant. Priya asks the man to leave the girl’s hand if not face the consequences.

When he does not relent, Devayani steps in followed by Vidya and finally it is Uttara

This is what I feel is an unintentional teaser for the viewers of what will happen.

Like Devayani’s father-in-law said Priya is a woman who will not take anything lying down and so she shall not like today.

Devayani we saw a lot of fear in eyes. But ultimately the woman in her will definitely overpower Mrs. Jakkhar and will follow suit

Drawing inspiration and strength from Priya and having her backing will follow suit and would be also her support to a greater or lesser extent especially in the initial days when Devayani will be against Priya to save the so called Jakkhar family’s Maryada.

While Uttara seems to be one who shares the category with Priya.  Only that, she is a little passive but if instigated she can be very lethal. She is soon going to get her instigation thanks to her husband. Uttara, I feel, is not from the immediate family hence will be a late entrant in the fight plus she has also her own issues to deal with.

Hence we have the Montage also as

Priya leading with Vidya on one side backing her. While Devayani backing her on the other side followed by Uttara in the end.

I am not good at explaining just try understanding what I am saying .....

Maryada - Losing it's grip

For me is a story of four female protagonists – Devayani, Uttara, Priya and Vidya. To add to the character list there are Gaurav SSP Aditya Priya's father and brother, etc.

I was looking for interesting and intriguing story and characterization.

But what is there in currently in this serial is

Story – Typical –It is not at all gripping. They are not using the 4 female leads properly.

Characterization

Devayani – She is protagonist but seeing all her actions and plans it seems we can were safely categorize her anytime as an antagonist who is scheming against her daughter in laws and sons. This is because she keeping the truth from them, she was instrumental for Gaurav’s wedding against his will, she is scared of Priya’s nature and would do anything to contain it to suit her purpose and plans, so on and so forth.

I felt her character’s essence would be as a person who has been fighting to keep her family together, one who would understand the plight of another lady. Currently is behaving like a typical saas from the saas bahu serials. Sweet saas but don’t know what she will be later.

Priya – I feel  she is inconsistent in her characterization. Due to her disturbed past she seems apprehensive about being associated with police but she agreed to marry Aditya without meeting his dad. Difficult to digest. Chalo theek yeh toh pacha liya but what about she being upset about Aditya wanting a kiss and saying his love is all about physicality. She is shown upset one moment and during her interaction with Chinu she is all blushing. This is what I call inconsistent. A person who is physically abused is scarred badly and such scars and their memories don’t go easily. So this sudden transition in her reaction is a little difficult to digest. Furthermore, what Chinu said was correct, after 14 days when she would be married to Aditya what does she intend to do if he demands physical relationship.  She is an intelligent lady has she not given that a thought.
She has a disturbed past which itself can be a good build up for the further story. But this is somewhere lost.

Uttara - Too many mysteries for her don't understand her role at all. She has a daughter where is she. Why is she away? What are her issues with Devayani?

Vidya - Is like a decoration piece.

Gaurav – One sensible character but don't know till when they will not utilize him. He is also turning out to be an extra

Vidya Gaurav  – They can have a wonderful soulful story between them.

Aditya – This character seems a little bit chauvinistic, immature and impulsive. Let’ see how he will handle Priya’s past and his father’s truth.  I feel the Rakesh fella overacts.

Priya  Aditya  – again can be a soulful love story which can have a lot of pull but currently is turning into a regular love story of two youngsters who fell in love married and have a little trials in order to fill some episodes. Jabardasti ka romance like the water pipe scene which is coming up soon.

All in all people will watch story, characterization, favourite couple, star celebrities, acting, etc. No doubt these Rakesh and Riddhi have good chemistry but how long can one pull a serial purely on chemistry or for that matter the acting skills alone with make a viewer come back to the serial.

The story and characterization is the main thing. Somehow, the story and characters do not have the quality to keep one engrossed and does not have the pull to make sure that one will definitely not miss the next episode.

My feel the story is losing it's grip.

Devayani - The way I see her

A lady is one who makes the home. She is the binding factor. Elders say that if a lady is not there then the home is not a home but just a structure. Without a lady the home or family can scatter within no time .

Devayani has been trying to do the same for all these years and for that she has made use of many lies or fictitious fairly tales about her husband, family, etc

She knows she is lying but her purpose is to safe guard the fragile pure minds of her children in the initial years. Her soul motive to lie to her sons about her husband is to protect them from harsh truth about their father. Children always perceive their father as an ideal and hence she does not want the image to be distorted. But yes
jhooth jyada der tak nahi tikata
and when the truth will be out no matter what her intentions were she will be blamed she knows it

She knows that lying is incorrect and now like she herself said she does not really understand at times what truth is or what lie.

She believes that her sons resound her preaching or upbringing. Hence she again does not hesitate to lie to Priya’s father that she will be taken care of.
Bolte hai khon ka asar hota hai i.e. some things are in the genes. Hope this does not come true in case of Aditya. Not as in having disrespectful and degrading behaviour towards women but being rash and forceful to have his way. Which I feel is there present. How will Devayani be able to mould / curb this tendency of Aditya is big question.
Her motive to get Gaurav married is not known to me ( I have seen many episodes). But nonetheless she is incorrect whatever the reason is. She could have thought that the marriage will soon be able to settle Gaurav or he would settle in it. But in this she has completely disregarded the well being / future of Gaurav’s wife. She always knew he was not prepared for this marriage. Hence, forcing the same should not have been a plan.
But in case of Aditya, her intentions are good. She wants best for her son and she would want the same for Priya. Yes, she lied but ultimately she will make sure Priya is fine.
I saw one scene but did not understand completely why she said / did what she said / did in case of Uttara when Uttara accuses of leaving her in a lurch. But her intentions have always been good for all. Similarly she may do so for Priya also.
Devayani ki andar ki aurat jo hai. Her feelings as a wife, as a lady (if you understand what I mean) are quite dead but as a mother, as a lady in general her feelings are not dead still. Hence, she does not like what her husband does nor will she when she comes to know Priya's truth.
I see her to be stuck in a loveless marriage yet she is there for her children and father in law who is a gem. At times it is hard to let go of such people  she could have walked out with her sons but her father in law will be torn between the two i.e. his own son and Devayani . She also does not want to deprive her sons the father’s love / pitru chaya. But in the whole bargain she has lost out on living her life.
All in all, like I said Devayani’s intentions are good but jhooth ke sahare kuch acha karna kaha tak sahi hota hai? In Mahabharat’s Kurukshetra war great warriors took the support of lies but ultimately had to pay the price for it. Similarly, Devayani would also. Time will tell what and would the trade off be justified and acceptable to her.
